Book Review: Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls I)
Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls Book 1) by bestselling author; Maggie Stiefvater
the cold.
Grace has spent years watching the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—watches back. He feels deeply familiar to her, but she doesn't know why.
the heat.
Sam has lived two lives. As a wolf, he keeps the silent company of the girl he loves. And then, for a short time each year, he is human, never daring to talk to Grace...until now.
the shiver.
For Grace and Sam, love has always been kept at a distance. But once it's spoken, it cannot be denied. Sam must fight to stay human—and Grace must fight to keep him—even if it means taking on the scars of the past, the fragility of the present, and the impossibility of the future.
This thrilling new tale of love between a werewolf and a girl might be cliché to other people. But somehow, this story stuck me as unique because i got to know more about wolves and their knack with the heat and cold, however, I can't help the uncanny feeling that it is less endowed with information - as to how the history of shape-shifting really came into being. Or maybe I'm just a little over-excited with this assumption that I feel less informed.
Anyway, Shiver is narrated by the alternating points of view of Sam and Grace. Sam shape-shifts into a wolf during the cold season and turns back into a human during summer. Grace was bitten by wolves when she was a child, but somehow, she remained human. They were drawn to each other when Grace finally discovered the wolves' secret, while Sam was on his last year turning into Human. They thought that the reason she didn't tuen lupine was because she was accidentally fried inside a car and still turned out alive when she was a kid. This formula may be the one Sam needed in order to remain as a Man for all his life. But is it really worth it?
The answer to that can be found on the next installment of Shiver. I give props to author Maggie Stiefvater for keeping me on my seat with her werewolf story. She actually made me feel like somebody else when i felt the surge of temperature in my office while I was reading Sam's transformation. I actually thought something would happen to me when I stepped out of the cold.. Hahahaha..
Really nice read! I recommend it for a nightly bedtime story :)
My rating for Shiver: 4 bookmarks!

The writing in this book is absolutely gorgeous. The characters are well-developed and realistic. The plot of the story simply swept my mind away into the world of Grace and Sam, werewolves and magic. It's a bittersweet, funny and beautiful story. The author, wow, incredible. Werewolves have been around for a long time, but Ms. Stiefvater makes the story so refreshing, you'd have thought she came up with the idea herself! This beautiful, exhilarating and heartwarming tale will have you eating chapters faster than you could ever imagine!
