9/11 after 10 years...

Who could ever forget 9/11?

The date when the Twin Towers known as World Trade Center was crashed by two Airlines and a part of The Pentagon collapsed. It was the day when the most powerful country in the world fell victim to terrorism. The September 11 disaster... and i began to remember what happened ten  years ago, while I was answering some e-mails at work, I received an Instant message from a pen-pal, Xander, asking me about my father.. here's how our conversation went:

Xander: Your father's in the U.S right?
Me: Yes..
Xander: he's working in an airline company, right?
Me: Yes...in United Airlines..(UA)
Xander: Is he working inside the plane?
Me: No, he doesn't work on board the plane.. he's a cook in UA's headquarters..
Xander: I see.. that's a relief..
Me: Hey, what do you mean? Why are you suddenly interested?
Xander: Sorry, I just thought you're already aware. There's a terrorist attack happening in America right now.. A United Airlines airplane crashed through the Twin Towers!
Me: What!? oh my God.. my dad!.... I'll talk to you later.. I'll just check the net..

and so i logged on to the Internet and to my surprise, i saw this airplane crashing through the World Trade Center ...
next thing i saw were thousands of people running in the street and falling from the building.. every webpage i access, there was a news four U.S. planes hijacked by terrorists and crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000 people in a matter of hours. it was nightmare! USA faced its darkest hour during that day..

I immediately thought about my father.. yes, he used to work in United Airlines before the attack.. he was one of the Filipino cooks in the UA headquarters. Fortunately, he was having his day-off when the Twin Towers collapsed; although he never really was part of the on-board crew. i called him up and he assured us that he and his family were safe and fine..

the next day, when i went back to work, i noticed that our service transportation no longer displayed our company's name on the side beams of the coaster.. what used to be written as AOL was replaced with the word, Clark Shuttle. At the office, there were a multitude of security guards roving around the area checking all vehicle rears..

it was then announced later in our office that AOL, being an American company, may be a target of a possible terrorism attack here in the Phils.. yes, we went "praning" upon learning about the Al Qaeda having its branches here in our own country.. we were even told not to wear our AOL Polo Shirts or anything that signifies our American company.. we were all freaked out..

International Agencies in a number of countries, including in our own country, have arrested terrorist suspects because it was thought that Philippines was harboring Taliban members in militant cells. This situation almost stained the relationship between US and Phils.

Truly, the suicide bombings and plane crashes had a big impact in the whole world... The then untouchable US territory faced its enemy in the dark. The firefighters and rescuers and those people who died from the World Trade Center were all heroes, for they have given up their lives to help the others.. A lot of lives were lost during that fateful day..

Today, we commemorate the event that brought all people in the world together to unite and stand up against the enemies.. today, let us say our prayers to those who have made a difference in this world.. today, let's light a candle for the souls of the victims of 9/11..
