MANILA, Philippines—As Supertyphoon Juan (international codename Megi) continued to hover near the country on Wednesday, Malacañang said that the government remained on alert for any eventuality, including the possible return of the strongest storm in the world so far this year.My heart goes out to the victims of the typhoon Juan. I know the feeling of being devastated by the storm & flood, me having experienced it more than 10 years ago. it was such a tragic moment that would never be erased from my mind..
"We're still on the alert,'' deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte told reporters.
Valte said government agencies continued to be vigilant as she noted that concerted efforts by all of them managed to "save lives'' when the typhoon hit Northern Luzon last Monday.
So far only 12 people have been reported killed during the passage of the typhoon, which continued to hover over the South China Sea in light of two high pressure areas in China that prevented the typhoon from moving father away from the Philippines.
Valte called on the people to remain vigilant as well.
"We should always be prepared in case it returns,'' she said.
