kyle's first day @ school
my little kid is now a big boy!
today is Kyle's first day at school and i was immensely impressed with him! just when i thought he'd scream and run away after seeing a roomful of kids hovering with their moms/dads, my brave boy was on his best behavior while seated at the corner... well... almost!
when i told him that parents are not allowed inside the classroom, he nodded his head and kept his demeanor intact (and head low). i knew he would be looking for me when i stepped out, so i immediately ran to the window nearest to his seat and encouraged him with two thumbs-up when i saw him.. he showed me a toothless grin and raised his thumb when he finally looked up...
the day started with the kids praying for the guidance of their Angels. then they were asked to stand up to sing the National Anthem. i heard my little tyke say, "i don't know that Bayang Magiliw" and his teacher said, "it's ok, kids, you're just going to listen to the tape that we are going to play"..
so when Teacher Lolita told them to stand & sing, he stood up & placed his hand on his chest and pretended to know the lyrics.. proudly Filipino! hehehe..
after which, they all sang Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star & Ako Ay May Lobo, but my kid grew weary when his teacher saw him loooking everywhere but her. this started the tantrums!
Kyle actually doesn't want getting reprimanded with his actions, so when Teacher Lolita caught his attention & told him to face her, he slumped down on his seat, head bowed down, covered his ears and didn't sing anymore.. the other kids also sat down while the others cried when they didn't see their guardians.. & oh, i saw another kid opening her bag and took out her Chuckie instead of singing...
but after a while, when everything was settled, the kids participated again after Teacher Lolita asked them to count from One -to-Ten and identify "colors".. my boy, although still a little agitated, raised his head and voice when he counted 1-10 & when he know the color being asked..
he was actually thought of a bit "mayabang" by his classmates when he pronounced the word Blue as "blew" & Orange as "Orenj" & the number 2 as "Chew" - with the American-Twang... (well, that's what he gets for watching English Cartoons - he could easily pick up their accents). anyway, i was glad he was able participate in the end..
and then my favorite subject finally started... RECESS! by the window, i told Kyle to zip up his bag so he can get his snacks & water tumbler. i thought he would still ask for help in ripping his foiled chocolate bar, but i was proud when he opened it by himself & even offered some to his front seat-mate, Aimee, a rotund girl with a sweet smile.
then he got pissed off again when his teacher saw the foil-pack (of the choco-bar) lying at his feet. Teacher Lolita said, "you should put this on the trash can" but my kid was embarassed so he didn't talk to her or to anyone else again.. it's when they were about to go home when he sneaked behind the window and whispered to me, "Mommy, i wanna go home na, my teacher doesn't like me"..
i told him to behave so that they can go home earlier.. thankfully, he obliged and in a matter of time, they all fell in line & waited for their moms to pick them. my son sighed heavily with relief when we finally got out. then he lamented loudly, "Mommy, are we going back tomorrow? I don't like school, di pala masaya..." LOL...
and that's how Kyle was on his first day at school... for me, it may have been a little flawed, but overall, it was EXCITING!
