advisory..
Mark your calendars!
SUMMER SOLSTICE (longest day and shortest night) will be on June 21,2010, starts @7:28 am & there will be a partial LUNAR ECLIPSE on June 26 which will start from 4:35 and will end at 10:21 pm (Philippine time)
The Annual Bootid meteor shower will also start on June 26-July 2 (shower peaks on the 27th).
Trivia: Solstice came from two latin words, Sol + stice which was derived from a combination of Latin words meaning "sun" + "to stand still." As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky.
As a major celestial event, the Summer Solstice results in the longest day and the shortest night of the year. The Northern Hemisphere celebrates in June, but the people on the Southern half of the earth have their longest summer day in December.
apparently, this "start of summer" applies to our U.S. comrades - since it's already the rainy season in our country.. but hey, there's nothing wrong with wishing, right? i can't wait for this celestial event :)
