a dove's flight

this morning, i saw dove composing an e-mail.. it's actually his letter of resignation. i asked him: "what? so soon?? i thought it can wait until the first week of july?"

he said.."no.. it can't wait.. i have to go..."

that's it.. poof!

Merwin, aka Dove, the big guy, will be leaving AOL with legacy.. after his 5 years of stay in our company, he has finally bid goodbye to us.. his reason: he wants to see the real world and bring joy to his son, Lucien...

i can't help but feel sad for his departure.. i know he's doing this for the welfare of his family.. i applaud him for that.. though i feel bad because he is one of the pillars of the Techmail team and has proven his worth in his queue.

i met dove, 3 years ago, when we became teammates under Coach Wayne's wing.. he was once a robust, silent type of a man, wearing glasses and throwing glances at Daneth's pod.. i thought, he was just quiet and timid..

but i was mistaken..

one day, when fran, daneth and i were having one of our "F4 talks" - (fran was fascinated with Jerry Yan, i was going ga-ga over KenChu and Danes was so in love with Vanness), Dove suddenly joined us.. he was intently listening to our conversation.. i didn't know that he was at all interested with our F4 talks.. out of nowhere, he said - "wow, F4!! when will F4 have a concert here in the Philippines?"

all our eyes were on dove.. i said, dove? F4? ows? charing! no one really believed that dove's into F4.. i know he has an ulterior motive for eavesdropping...

two days later, i discovered, Dove had the hots for Daneth aka Danes.. that was the reason why he was interested in our sessions.. because of Danes... that's when i discovered that Dove had been keeping tabs on our friend.. that's when the DaVuzz (our very own The Buzz) started.. every day, fran and i would pick on Dove and asked him questions about his love life and his feelings fo Danes.. that's when the three of us, Fran, Dove & I got close.. so close, that there was even a time when my team thought that Dove was courting Fran.. hehehe..

dove is well-known for his expertise in cooking.. i will surely miss the food he had served for us - the sisig, pinaputok na tilapia, sumptious spaghetti - among other things.. basta si dove ang nakatoka na magluto for the team building, expect that the food will diminish in no time..

i never thought that my recollection of dove's moments here in AOL would bring a smile to my face..

when dove and i parted teams, our friendship did not really blossom.. let's just say, we did not become really good or "tight" friends.. but when got the chance to be his team mate again last year, that's when the 6am peeps started to form a bond.. yes, a bond that we would be treasuring, hopefully, until we grow old.. i'm glad to know that i was able to get close to dove again..

dovey - my friend.. i may not be as close to you as i have been with bryan, but you will have a place in my life.. your pieces of advice and "educational" e-mails will always be a reminder that a big man like you also has a soft heart like a dove.. may your flight overseas bring you joy and satisfaction that you were not able to find here..
